What it means to be masculine has been bastardized to the point of becoming impossible for a consensus to be reached within the culture.
Sadly, the situation within the Christian church today isn’t much better, as many of its men are relegated to navigating life without a firm grasp of what biblical masculinity entails. They’re completely ignorant of the litany of imperatives in scripture implicitly imploring them to live it out their masculinity.
The emasculation of Christian men is much more an indictment on the collective Biblical illiteracy plaguing the Christian church today than it is scripture failing to teach men what it is to be masculine. Indeed, the Biblical texts are replete with examples of the masculine qualities men have been uniquely endowed with by their Creator. This includes the example set by the quintessential masculine man: Jesus Christ.
If there’s one man we can look at to exemplify authentic masculinity it’s the one who is fully God and fully man; the one that created mankind with clear and deliberate delineations between the qualities included within the designs of men and women.
Many outside of the faith make the mistake of assuming Christianity to be a crutch for weak and emasculated men.
While I admit it’s understandable how they might draw this conclusion by observing certain men within the Church today, the masculinity God created men to possess – and calls them to exhibit in obedience to His purposes for them – is so formidable a challenge that it requires the very power of God in order to live it out.
God calls us to be the leaders in the family and in society. He calls us to resist the many temptations to elevate ourselves at the expense of others. He commands us to stand for truth and justice, no matter the personal cost of doing so.
Biblical masculinity requires the continual development of conviction, courage, and character.
My guest on today’s podcast joins me to discuss why Christian men are missing the mark in these areas today and what it will require of them to reclaim the masculinity they’ve been given in order that they might use it for their benefit, the benefit of their families, and the benefit of society.
Jarrett Samuels is a Pastor who’s committed his life to pursuing biblical manliness, while also encouraging other men to rise to the standard of masculinity communicated in God’s word.
He does this primarily through his blog at ThePursuitofManliness.com and his podcast that bears the same name.
Jarrett will be the first to admit that he doesn’t have it all figured out. Nevertheless, he’s a man that has a heart for God, one that he wears on his sleeve as he strives for masculine excellence.
Jarrett is a refreshing masculine presence within a subculture that’s littered with false bravado and alpha male caricatures. He writes and speaks with a level of genuine honesty and boldness of conviction I believe to be sorely missing among modern men.
Listen in to our discussion as Jarrett explains what it is that brought him to the point of deciding to take his masculine nature seriously and what he’s discovered through his own reclamation of biblical masculinity.
